"People have a tough time finding blood donors even though hospitals have data to find these donors in the first place. However, finding donors does take time"
Why it takes time?
People in a frenzy looking for donors using any medium they can find. Here's some data to help you visualise the research that took place for us to start working on this problem for the masses.

Helping the people
Blood donors are there all around us, we pass by them every day. However, people and hospitals have a tough time accessing them due to constraints. Blod co-founders had an idea and they reached out to me to…

The problem
Picture this, you are at the hospital and the nurse tells you that they are running out of a specific blood type for your loved one and that you need to get donors to maintain the supply. How will you find donors ASAP? Thousands of people face this issue regularly, they reach out to their friends and family or common contact…it takes them hours before they can even confirm 2 bags of blood.

First attempt
We grouped together to discuss features and their impact. What I contributed to these conversations was how simple the product UI should be for the user to deal with in a stressful situation due to xyz medical emergency.

We received our first UX challenge
Some users were unable to understand how the pincode feature worked. So what we did next was more than just a simple research and re-launch technique.
Media Recognition
We further discussed how to improve the features of the product, hence we began interviewing users and going about our day. When we turned to our phones we saw…

we found tremendous support from people all around us. Many supported the idea and the interface design. We were super pumped 💪🏻 and overwhelmed 😁 with this response…the recognition ✨ …, the excitement in the team 🤩…, the feeling of pride 🥹 grew and motivated us to work towards improving the platform to reach more hospitals and more patients.
Second attempt
One fine evening during our meetings it was pointed out that we unknowingly have been sharing very private and sensitive data to the public for free and without any protection…Protecting our donors information.

Research and Discovery
We contacted users via our social handle and heard from the hospital staff as well about the privacy concerns of the easily available donor data on our website. We setup a meeting to add a wall of security around this data and launch it soon as an update.
Explorations
Our initial idea revolved around the concept where the user requesting the donors information will have to upload any of their Govt. details to proceed. This feature was designed to create security and allow Blod to be the moderators. However, we soon realised that this had some flaws.
Deeper into discussion someone proposed a solution where the donor can receive a request directly to call the people looking for blood donors. While this idea had some flaws, the biggest one being if the donor doesn't see the text or forgets to call back. What I suggested was that we setup a company number for people to call donors.

This phase is something which is locked under an NDA, if you’re reading this and are interested in knowing what actions I took further along with the team then please feel free to reach out to me anytime.
I will however leave you with some insights on the impact of my work for Blod.
Impact
"Saving lives was the real motivation."
The effort it took to help this community and bridge the gap was something that I will always carry proudly in my heart, what made this better was helping spread this cause through design and tech on a larger scale to achieve better numbers is something special.
